Biosolutions for smarter silage management

Smarter silage starts here

Great livestock performance begins with well-managed silage.
From field to feed-out, every detail matters. With the right
practices—and the right inoculant—you can preserve more,
waste less and set your herd up for success.

One year of feed.
Just days to get it right.

Silage-making is one of the most critical, time-sensitive steps in farm management. Inconsistent harvests, challenging weather and dry conditions make good planning and reliable fermentation more important than ever.

More confidence, less guesswork

We offer a broad range of silage inoculants to support better fermentation, stability and feed value. Globally tested, farmer-proven and ready to help you make the most of every ton—regardless of crop or conditions.

A care system that works for you

Our biosolutions are flexible to your forage type, system and silage goals. Combine them with good management to protect your hard-earned feed from harvest to feed-out.

In addition to a wide portfolio of branded and customized silage inoculants, we offer a variety of value-adding services and tools to our customers, including product training and support. Ask your local representative about the services available in your area.

Where good silage begins

Great silage isn’t luck—it’s the result of the right crop, the right timing, the right tools and the right management. Every step counts, and it all starts before the bunker is even filled. Small misses lead to big (hidden) losses—hurting animal performance and your bottom line.

Master the silage basics —because every step matters

From harvest to feed-out, success comes down to the details. Follow these eight critical control points to protect feed quality, reduce waste and set your herd up for a year of consistent nutrition.

1. People S.A.F.E.T.Y. first

When it comes to silage making people always comes first. Diligently do everything possible to ensure safety for all. Empower those, that have the decision to start, alter or stop the harvest and ensiling process.

2. Harvest at the right maturity

Maximize sugar content and nutrient value by harvesting crops at optimal maturity—too early or too late affects fermentation and digestibility.

3. Aim for the ideal dry matter content

Target dry matter levels to match your forage type. Silage that's too wet or too dry increases the risk of spoilage and losses, so prepare based on that.

4. Chop to the right length

Proper chop length (theoretical length of cut) ensures good compaction and promotes better fermentation. Fine enough to pack, coarse enough to stimulate rumination.

5. Apply the right inoculant

Use a scientifically selected silage inoculant suited for your forage and goal (e.g., early opening, aerobic stability, fast fermentation).

6. Compact tightly and evenly

Oxygen is the enemy of silage. Proper packing removes air and helps create the anaerobic conditions needed for a stable fermentation.

7. Seal immediately and effectively

Cover silage quickly with high-quality plastic and apply weight (e.g., gravel bags or tires) to prevent air penetration and spoilage.

8. Manage feed-out with care

Maintain a clean, tight silage face. Remove silage in thin, even layers and limit daily exposure to air to reduce heating and microbial growth.
